Malian Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed during coordinated terrorist attacks by rebel groups and al-Qaeda-linked elements on the capital, Bamako, and several Malian cities. The attacks targeted the minister's residence at Katy military base amid violent confrontations with the Malian army.
On Sunday, Radio France Internationale announced the martyrdom of Malian Defense Minister Sadio Camara in an armed attack targeting his residence at the Katy military base outside the capital Bamako, according to Reuters. The Republic of Mali witnessed an exceptional wave of violence that extended on Saturday and Sunday, as armed groups carried out coordinated attacks on the capital, Bamako, along with several strategic cities, including Katy, Gao, Mopti and Sévaré, with renewed armed confrontations in the city of Kidal In the north of the country, reports indicated that these operations were the result of joint coordination between the Front for the Liberation of Azawad and rebel groups with organizational ties to al-Qaeda in the Sahel region, in what is considered one of the most violent attacks in the country in recent years. For its part, the Malian army confirmed its response to armed attacks and the launch of military operations to pursue armed elements, pointing out that there were casualties among the attackers without the possibility of Independent verification of accurate figures as combat operations continue in a number of affected areas.
