Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi revealed positive results of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was held at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library in St. Petersburg, describing the meeting as “very productive.” The Iranian minister explained in press statements that the talks, which lasted for more than an hour and a half, dealt with bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow, as well as regional issues, the ongoing war and US attacks Araqchi pointed out that the current circumstances provide a suitable ground for cooperation with Russia, stressing his country's desire to continue the strategic partnership with Moscow, while thanking Russia for its continued support for Iran throughout the war. For his part, Russian President Putin expressed his country's commitment to make every effort to bring peace to the Middle East as soon as possible, in line with the interests of Russia, Iran and other countries in the region. This meeting comes in the shadow of The war that began on February 28 between the United States and Israel on the one hand and Iran on the other, where Tehran responded by launching attacks on Israel and what it described as "American positions and interests" in the region. The crisis witnessed diplomatic developments with the announcement of an interim truce mediated by Pakistan on April 8, followed by a round of talks on 11 of the same month that did not result in an agreement, before US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the truce "until the submission of Tehran's proposal" on negotiations.
