Media reports revealed that Israel deployed a battery from the Iron Dome system in the United Arab Emirates during the war with Iran, accompanied by dozens of soldiers to operate it. This is the first time this system has been deployed outside of Israel and the United States.
The American Axios website, citing Israeli and American sources, reported that Tel Aviv deployed for the first time the Iron Dome system outside its borders and the borders of the United States, as a battery of this advanced defense system arrived on UAE territory with the beginning of the military conflict with Iran. During the war, the UAE faced intense Iranian attacks that made it the most bombed target in the region. According to the Ministry of Defense UAE, Tehran launched about 550 ballistic and cruise missiles, in addition to more than 2,200 drones towards UAE territory, which exceeded the size of the attacks on Israel itself. The Israeli decision to deploy the defense system came after a phone call by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in response to the UAE's request for assistance. The system was able to intercept dozens of missiles Iranian forces, despite the success of some of them in hitting military and civilian targets. The move comes within the framework of the close military and political cooperation between the two countries since the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020, which came partly in response to the common Iranian threat. The Israeli Air Force also carried out air operations in southern Iran to neutralize short-range missiles that were threatening the Gulf states. The presence of Israeli forces on UAE soil could raise political sensitivities. However, a senior Emirati official confirmed that his country "will not forget" the Israeli assistance during this critical phase, while other officials praised the support provided by the United States, France, Britain, Italy and Australia. On the other hand, Ukraine continues its efforts to obtain Iron Dome technology from Israel to no avail, while US President Donald Trump is seeking to develop the Golden Dome space system inspired by The Israeli terrestrial model.
