The European Union sent the first batches of the experimental drug Favipiravir to France, Spain and the Netherlands to counter the hantavirus. This came after the Japanese company Fujifilm donated 1,400 tablets, in the absence of an officially approved treatment for the virus.

The European Union has announced the distribution of the first shipment of the experimental anti-Hantavirus drug to three member states, as part of urgent efforts to contain an outbreak of the disease that threatens European public health. France, Spain and the Netherlands each received rations of 1,400 tablets of Favipiravir, after a generous donation from Japanese pharmaceutical company Fujifilm, according to the European Commission.
