US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel for an additional three weeks, following the second round of talks held at the White House. Trump expressed optimism about the possibility of achieving a final peace between the two countries this year, stressing Washington's readiness to support Lebanon directly.
The White House witnessed the second round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, in the presence of US President Donald Trump and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, where Ambassador Nada Hamada Moawad represented the Lebanese side, while Ambassador Yehuel Leiter headed the Israeli delegation. After the meetings, Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire between the two parties for an additional three weeks, stressing that the talks in the Oval Office "went very well," and the commitment of the United States to support Lebanon directly to protect itself from Hezbollah. The US president expressed great optimism about the possibility of achieving peace between the two countries, saying: “I think that peace between Lebanon and Israel may happen this year, the two countries suffer from the same problems and the Lebanese are the smartest people.” He indicated his intention to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the near future. Trump confirmed that Iran will cut off He expressed his keenness to repeal the law criminalizing communication with Israel in Lebanon, expecting Saudi Arabia to help in the agreement between the two countries.
