"Fjord" wins the Palme d 'Or of Cannes 2026

The 79th Cannes Film Festival concluded with Romanian director Cristian Mongio's “Fjord” winning the Palme d 'Or. This session was marked by the distribution of several equal awards, with Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrosi sharing the award for best director, while Valentin Campani and Emmanuel Macchia shared the award for best actor.

The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival 2026 came to a close with the announcement of the final results of the official competition, where the film "Fjord" by Romanian director Christian Mongio took the throne of the festival by winning the Palme d 'Or. This achievement came after a fierce competition that included 22 of the world's most prestigious film productions. The jury chaired by Korean director Park Chan-wook topped the final scene, which included stars in its membership Prominent figures like Demi Moore, Stellan Skarsgard and Chloe Chow. Critics and observers have dubbed this tournament the “Night of Favors” due to the distribution of several major prizes among more than one winner.
